A song on this album, Eulogize The Source, describes this offering from the Poets of Rhythm perfectly. While there is not much here that hasn’t been done before, since the death of James Brown, someone needed to pick up the mantle of funky standards. |
Not quite as tight or polished as El Michel’s Affair, this sounds like listening to a raw jam session of Parliament/Funkadelic, minus the innoventive riffs and rhythms. If you are into the other bands on their label like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, or The Budos Band, chances are you’ll enjoy this disc as well.
