Plot: Lars is an awkward young man that is debilitatingly shy and lacking basic social skills. He finds the girl of his dreams in Bianca, a sex doll he orders online. The movie chronicles how Lars learns what being an adult looks like through a community that loves him in spite of his eccentricities.

Acting: The acting is the strongest part of this movie. Ryan Gosling does an incredible job of portraying Lars. His performance is believable, makes you really care about the character and steals the show.

Excellent supporting roles by Emily Mortimer as his concerned sister-in-law and Kelli Garner as 'the real girl'.

Themes: Acceptance — It is obvious that Lars has serious issues. He orders a sex doll online not for its intended use, but to have a meaningful relationship with.
