"DONNIE DARKO"

Overall Rating:

Plot: A troubled young man named Donnie is visited by Frank, a man in a scary bunny costume who tells Donnie that the world will end in 28 days. Donnie returns home after sleepwalking one night to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. The film chronicles Donnie trying to making sense of why he is still alive as well as trying to understand Frank’s omen that the world will end shortly. Strangeness ensues.

Acting: Part of the strength of this movies lies in the character development of the people in Donnie’s life. Strong, believable performances from Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal (real life brother and sister mimicking art) and Mary McDonnell as Donnie’s mother. Great supporting roles by Patrick Swayze and Beth Grant. Drew Barrymore was out of her element unfortunately, but Noah Wyle plays a solid role as another school professor.
