Random Observations

The whole movie is about Theo trying to get Kee to safety. This safety comes in the form of a boat called The Tomorrow. It is an interesting choice of refuge since they are placing their hope in a boat that also has no roots if floating in open sea, and can offer no concrete solution. Is tomorrow's hope a floating ship out at sea, or something anchored? There is a scene at the beginning that shows a group wearing sandwich boards and waving signs that say the infertility is God’s wrath on a sinful world. Scripturally, this could not be correct, since He promised to not destroy the earth again after the flood (Gen. 9;11.). Notice that the camera never cuts during the battle scene in the end. It is one long continuous shot for about 5 minutes. Incredibly well done.

There is no guarantee that there will be a boat waiting for Theo and Kee at the end of the movie. They are placing their faith in something they can’t see, but must believe exists. Also of note is that Theo sets out hoping there is a boat, but never lives to see it. Reminded me of Abraham from Heb.11:8, 13. There are a large amount of animals in the film. Presumably, in a world that has not heard a baby cry in 18 years, people transfer the need to nurture towards their animals. Maybe not so different from people today who don’t have any kids? Dogs in sweater vests, anyone?
