This is the movie that was needed to bring the Batman franchise out of the toilet of weak Batmans and overly flashy villains.
What made this movie work so well was that you forget it is a Superhero genre flick, and with the right amount on believability (minus the Batmobile chase scene) this could very well be another action/adventure movie. It is fitting, since Batman is the most human superhero, with no superhuman mutant powers, equipped more like Inspector Gadget more than Superman.
Liam Neeson plays a role strangely similar to Qui-Gon Jinn, in the new Star Wars installations, complete with cryptic sayings and Eastern Guru vibe. Michael Cain raises the level of the entire cast and movie up a notch, as usual, and Morgan Freeman is always Morgan Freeman.
Great movie for an Art on Life group to discuss together. |
